The Kelapa Gading Sub-district Water Resources (SDA) Executing Unit is set to build permanent water channels on the north and south sides of Jalan Boulevard Barat, Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.

The channel will be made using u-ditch measuring 80x80 millimeters and 1,000x1,000 millimeters

Citrin Indriati, Head of Kelapa Gading Sub-district Water Resources (SDA) Executing Unit, disclosed the floodwaters as high as 15-20 cm had hit the road last weekend after heavy rain poured Jakarta and its surrounding areas. It was due to uneven contours and Kelapa Gading - Pulo Gebang toll road projects.

"This channel is not connected with BGR and Pelapah connecting channels yet. It also has a gap, as toll road pillars were built at the location. It also looks sloping, concave, and hollow," he expressed, Tuesday (2/23).

Thus far the permanent channel that had been made was on the north side starting from the Toyota Astrido to the 170-meter length BGR connecting channel. However, until now the work had not been completed.

"So, the contractor for the toll road construction will make a permanent channel along Jalan Boulevard Barat. The channel will be made using u-ditch measuring 80x80 millimeters and 1,000x1,000 millimeters," he explained.

When the channel was completed, his party was also about to anticipate long-term flooding at the location.

"We'll do a routine maintenance, like channel dredging," he uttered.

Previously, last weekend, some 15 personnel plus two pumps with 50 liters per second were alerted to cope with flooding. It was also supported with a pump from the toll road work project at the same location.
